First Community Credit Union (FCCU) recently held fundraisers for Special Olympics of North Dakota (SOND). SOND is an organization that provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. FCCU raised $2,500 for the organization.

The funds were raised by flower sales around Mother's Day, an employee grill out, ice cream sales and jeans Fridays. There were also volunteer opportunities for staff. About 20 FCCU volunteers helped at the spring and summer games held in Valley City and Fargo respectively. The competitions included a variety of athletic competitions where employees helped by selling souvenirs, facilitating track and field races and activities at Olympic Town.

“I’m a partner for Special Olympics volleyball and it’s the highlight of my year, said longtime SOND volunteer and FCCU employee in Bismarck, Melissa Johannes.” She continues, “I love getting together to practice with the individuals and playing the game. They are some of the most competitive people you’ll ever have the privilege of playing with. It’s great to see the joy in their faces when they win a game and then the agony of defeat too. It’s great to get together. We have a blast!”

Thank you, to everyone involved, for helping support Special Olympics of North Dakota and for your continued support of our quarterly charities.

During its 77 year history, First Community Credit Union has grown to be North Dakota’s largest Credit Union with 160 employees and 15 branches whose field of membership covers approximately one third of the state. As a credit union, FCCU is owned by its members. This is different than other financial institutions which are owned by a select group of stockholders. The Credit Union's profits are returned to the members in the form of better services, accounts and favorable rates on savings and loans.
