ST. JOSEPH, Mich. – United Federal Credit Union (UFCU) and GateWay Services will team up again for the Play for GateWay Softball Tournament. United holds the distinction of being the only platinum-level sponsor in the tournament’s 32-year history.

GateWay is a private nonprofit rehabilitation organization that provides services to people with disabilities, disadvantages and special needs. Each year, approximately $30-thousand is raised to help GateWay provide therapeutic services, vocational opportunities, training, community life skills and other support in the community.

The tournament features corporate teams from across Southwest Michigan in friendly competition. The games provide fun for the whole family and are completely unpredictable because anything goes – for the right price. For a few extra donation dollars, umpires can be bribed to bend the rules and opposing players can be forced to run the bases wearing props like diving fins and hula skirts, or use alternate batting equipment like plastic rakes and tiki torches.

“The annual softball tournament has become a tradition and we are honored to be a part of it,” said UFCU’s Benton Harbor Branch Manager Wendy Hubbard. “We believe it’s important for area businesses to come together to help Gateway provide such valuable services. It’s a team effort!”

The Play for Gateway Softball Tournament takes place on July 28 and 29 at Plannger’s Field in Benton Township, Michigan.
