Jeanne D'Arc CU Just Donated $1,500 to Uncommon Threads - Helping Women in Need
July 14, 2017
We share a passion for our members and community: that’s our common thread.
LOWELL – Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union is excited to announce the winner of its latest Give-A-Click campaign is Uncommon Threads. Uncommon Threads uses clothes as a tool for boosting the self-esteem and self-worth of women in need. The non-profit, located in Lawrence, MA, received a $1,500 donation from the We Share A Common Thread Foundation.
The Give-A-Click campaign runs every quarter on the Credit Union’s We Share a Common Thread Foundation website. Community members visit the site, learn about three worthy non-profit organizations, and cast their vote for the one they would like to support. The organization with the most votes at the end of the quarter is awarded a $1,500 donation from the Foundation. New non-profits are posted every quarter and people of the community, Jeanne D’Arc members, employees and supporters of the featured organizations are asked to visit WeShareACommonThread.org to help their favorite nonprofits gain a much-needed donation.
“We are thrilled,” said Susan Kanoff, Founder and Executive Director of Uncommon Threads. “Community support means everything,” she added.
Kanoff has dedicated much of her life to helping others. Recently retired, she was a social worker for more than 20 years and also worked independently as a personal wardrobe stylist for nine years. These two passions of hers were completely unrelated, but combining them ultimately lead her to begin Uncommon Threads in November of 2016.
Though each situation is different, many women who visit the Uncommon Threads boutique are victims of domestic violence, disabled, unemployed, struggling with addiction or have been recently released from prison. Clients of the program are all referred by social workers. They receive a private styling session with a volunteer stylist, where they learn about the styles and colors that fit them best so they can move forward with self-confidence.
“Uncommon Threads has done incredible work in helping so many women in our community,” said Mark S. Cochran, President and Chief Executive Officer of Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union. “Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union is committed to supporting local organizations, and we are excited to be able to assist their mission through our Give-A-Click program,” he added.
Kanoff and her Operations Manager, Lysanne LaPierre, worked hard to promote their participation in the program by posting on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, as well as sending out multiple email blasts.
Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union was also honored to feature the Humane Society for Greater Nashua and Greater Lawrence Community Boating Program, Inc. as nominees in the second quarter Give-A-Click campaign.
The third quarter contest kicked off on July 1st with the following organizations vying for the next donation: Nashua PAL, Roudenbush Community Center and Clean River Project.
