HOCU Awards Six Scholarships

HOCU SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED TO SIX RECIPIENTS

HONOLULU, HI (June 27, 2017) – Today HOCU (Honolulu Federal Credit Union) awarded six members $1,000 scholarships to help further their education at institutions of higher education. The members awarded the scholarships were:

·      Bailey Ogawa of Mid-Pacific will attend a University in Korea;

·      Adrian Tautasi Baqui of Kanana Fou High School will attend Leeward Community College;

·      Bryson Nakatani of the University of Hawaii at Manoa will attend the University of Missouri-Kansas City;

·      Alex Yamada of Pearl City High School will attend the University of California at Berkeley;

·      James Kawika Gauer will attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa; and

·      Evonne Chan of Mid Pacific will attend California Polytechnic State University.

“We were very impressed with these applicants and the amount of work they have achieved at such a young age,” said Mark Munemitsu, HOCU president and CEO. “We are excited for each of these students and for what’s to come in their professional future.”

HOCU established the scholarship program in 2003 and has awarded 55, $1,000.00 scholarships to date to qualified member-applicants who have been accepted to, or are currently enrolled in a trade school/community college or university program. The scholarships are available to primary members of HOCU in good standing and are selected by a committee annually.

The scholarship program notice is posted in January with applications accepted by April 1. Those who apply must meet certain criteria and recipients are notified before mid-June.
