Maurie C Byrne Chapter Donates Household Items to Local Shelter
July 5, 2017
The Maurie C Byrne Chapter of Credit Union’s donated $500.00 worth of household items to the Community Violence Intervention Center (CVIC) in Grand Forks, ND. CVIC works to provide a lifeline to safety, and fosters healing and empowerment while promoting an end to violence. CVIC was formed in the 1980s and has experienced many expansions since that time due to increased demand for their services. The items donated will be used to furnish a recently built shelter that houses children and adults who are fleeing domestic abuse situations.
Pictured are the board members of the Maurie C Byrne Chapter. Chapter board members met with Jamie Bischoff from CVIC and discussed the importance of CVIC as a safe place to go when fleeing a dangerous situation. She stated that one of the primary concerns for these individuals is the financial fear of leaving their partner. Donations like those made by the Chapter allow CVIC to offer these individuals a free, furnished place to stay with free daycare. This allows them to focus on job and apartment hunting. Chapter board members and credit union employees recognize the importance of financial stability to individuals and our community as a whole.
