FIVE STUDENTS GET A HEAD START WITH COLLEGE

Stratford, CT – June 22, 2017  –  Sikorsky Credit Union recently awarded $1,000 scholarships to five high school seniors who are headed to college in the fall of 2017.  Through the Thomas J. Williams scholarship program, Sikorsky Credit Union annually awards five scholarships to students who use the money toward college expenses such as tuition, books or other school materials.

Students wrote essays describing money lessons learned in high school that will help them as they begin college.  Nearly 75 graduating seniors submitted essays, which were reviewed by a committee, with the top five essay writers selected as this year’s scholarship recipients.

This year’s winners are Kevin Arther of Sandy Hook, Kiersten Bjork of Branford, Parker Callahan of Milford, Olivia Plavcan of Stratford and Adam Wielebinski of Newtown

“There is always great enthuisasm for these scholarships,” noted Diane Farrell, Senior Vice President of Marketing.  “We were able to meet all of this year’s winners in person, and they all were excited to learn of their outstanding achievement.  We’re happy to give these students a head start.”

Sikorsky Credit Union annually awards scholarships, and named the program after Thomas J. Williams, longtime CEO of the Credit Union, who passed away in 2015.

Founded in 1948, Sikorsky Credit Union (www.sikorskycu.org) is the 4th largest credit union in Connecticut with approximately 50,000 members and over $700 million in assets.  Sikorsky Credit Union community branches are located in the towns of Stratford, Shelton, Seymour, Milford and Danbury.  The Credit Union also operates branches in Ansonia, Oxford, Stratford and Seymour High Schools, as well as branches inside Sikorsky Aircraft plants in Stratford and Bridgeport, along with West Palm Beach, FL. As a state chartered credit union, membership is open to anyone who lives, works or worships in Fairfield, New Haven or Hartford County.  Deposits are insured by the National Credit Union Administration, an agency of the U.S. Government.
