EAST LANSING, Mich. – MSU Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU) is pleased to announce that it has been recognized by the Capital Area United Way (CAUW) for the 2016 Company Volunteer of the Year award. Each year, CAUW recognizes a company that consistently and effectively encourages its employees to volunteer their time and talent in local communities. MSUFCU was recognized for its support of volunteerism and substantial impact on several nonprofit organizations throughout the year.

During 2016, MSUFCU employees raised over $194,000 for the CAUW and Small Talk Children’s Assessment Center, which helps heal and empower children who are victims of physical and sexual abuse. Employees also volunteered over 900 hours of time to help local organizations ranging from Volunteers of America and Capital Area Humane Society, to Girl Scouts and Junior Achievement. “One of MSUFCU’s core values is giving back to the community, and we are excited to encourage our employees to volunteer and donate to local nonprofits,” said April Clobes, MSUFCU’s President/CEO. “Each year the number of individuals we employ grows, allowing us to expand the time and resources we contribute. Our employees enjoy giving back and strengthening our community by helping families and individuals receive basic needs, help students achieve success in many areas, and ensuring families are secure, happy, and healthy.”

MSU Federal Credit Union offers a full range of personal — and business-related — financial services to Michigan State University and Oakland University faculty, staff, students, alumni, and their families worldwide, in addition to a variety of select employee groups. Founded in 1937 by MSU professors, MSUFCU has 17 branches, over 235,000 members, more than $3.56 billion in assets, and over 750 employees.

In 2016, MSUFCU was recognized as the #1 Top Workplace in the large employer category by the Detroit Free Press, as well as one of Fortune’s 50 Best Workplaces For New College Grads. Also in 2016, MSUFCU was selected as one of West Michigan’s 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For, receiving the Michigan Business Professional Association’s top honor of Elite Overall – Best of the Best award. MSUFCU has a national reputation for excellence, and was recognized in 2016 as fifth in the nation for its financial education program by the National Youth Involvement Board. In 2017, the Credit Union was named Outstanding Credit Union of the Year by the Michigan Credit Union League.
