Waterloo, Iowa (May 22, 2017): Veridian Credit Union held a free Community Shred Day on Saturday, May 20 at five Veridian branches across Iowa. Approximately 2,000 people shredded nearly 50,000 pounds of unwanted, sensitive documents in mobile shred trucks from On-Site Information Destruction, Inc. The trucks were stationed at select Veridian branches in Ankeny, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Waterloo and West Des Moines.
“Shredding sensitive, unwanted documents is one easy way to help protect yourself against identity theft,” said Trina Becker, Veridian’s manager of loss prevention. “Community Shred Day offers a convenient opportunity to safely dispose of those old financial statements and anything else containing personal information.”
The shredded material will be recycled into commercial grade paper towels, toilet paper and other paper products, saving an estimated 421 trees. Since Veridian’s first Community Shred Day in 2009, an estimated 26,000 attendees have shredded approximately 670,000 pounds of documents, saving more than 5,000 trees. Veridian’s next Community Shred Day is scheduled for the fall.
