Stratford, CT –May 19, 2017  –  Sikorsky Credit Union recently joined forces with William B. Meyer Inc. and the Stratford Rotary in hosting their Shred It Day event. This event took place at the Baldwin Center in Stratford on Saturday, April 22, and gave local residents an opportunity to protect their personal information by having paperwork properly destroyed. In addition to paper shredding, unused electronics were collected for disposal and recycling.

While giant trucks were being filled, funding was taking place for a community project through donations.   A donation was requested of “Shred It Day” participants, with proceeds going toward the purchase of school supples for needy Stratford elementary school students. Despite inclement weather, a record amount was raised for the second straight event.

“The Stratford Rotary Club is very appreciative of those who came out for this event, despite the cold and rainy weather. Every donation helps us support Stratford students.” said John Corb, a Stratford Rotarian who helped facitilitate the event.  Added Diane Farrell, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Sikorsky Credit Union, “This event fills an important need for the community. We spoke with members who came from as far away as Woodbury to have paper shredded and electornics recycled.  The community focus on protecting personal information and helping children in our community is very important to us.”

Founded in 1948, Sikorsky Credit Union (www.sikorskycu.org) is the 4th largest credit union in Connecticut with approximately 50,000 members and over $700 million in assets.  Sikorsky Credit Union community branches are located in the towns of Stratford, Shelton, Seymour, Milford and Danbury.  The Credit Union also operates branches in Ansonia, Oxford, Stratford and Seymour High Schools, as well as branches inside Sikorsky Aircraft plants in Stratford and Bridgeport, along with West Palm Beach, FL. As a state chartered credit union, membership is open to anyone who lives, works or worships in Fairfield, New Haven or Hartford County.  Deposits are insured by the National Credit Union Administration, an agency of the U.S. Government.
