May 22, 2017
Student members of the SECU of Maryland-sponsored Millionaire's Club at the Applications and Research Lab in Ellicott City, MD, have earned the distinction of Millionaire’s Club of the Year, announced the Credit Union Foundation MD|DC, creators of the growing financial literacy program.
The “gold bar” trophy is presented each year to one Millionaire’s Club whose accomplishments represent the best of the best among the dozens of Clubs in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
The Club’s Faculty Advisor, Maddy Halbach, PhD., wrote in the Club’s annual review, “Imagine a society where individuals know how to make good financial decisions in life and because of this they are able to break the poverty cycle. I believe that financial education is the equalizer for socioeconomic differences in our society. The Millionaires Club helps bridge that gap at our school. When students learn and apply financial literacy concepts in a fun and engaging way their retention of the information and their motivation is increased. The club is just a win-win for all participating and our society.”
