America's Christian Credit Union Shows Support for Adopting Families
May 18, 2017
Glendora, CA, May 16th, 2017— Glendora’s Mayor Pro Tem and President/CEO of
America’s Christian Credit Union, Mendell L. Thompson, will make a Proclamation, that the month of May be designated as Foster Care Adoption Awareness Month, at the Glendora City Council meeting, on Tuesday, May 26, at 7 p.m.
Neighborhood Christian Fellowship’s Pastor Dave Johnson will receive the honor on behalf of the Foster Care and Adoption community. Most recently, Dave and his family completed the foster adoption of his son, Jake. Jake is only one of 28,000 children in the L.A. County foster care system, while an additional 400,000 remain in foster care nationwide. “We want to tell the story of Pastor Dave and Jake’s adoption process, so other interested families are encouraged and reminded that they are not alone in this difficult process”, said Thompson.
ACCU has had the privilege of coming alongside more than 1,500 adoptive parents like Pastor Dave, easing their financial burdens and working with agencies to place foster children in loving, forever homes. “The needs in the foster care system are many, so I am thrilled to see the ways many faith communities are responding by opening their hearts and homes. Pastor Johnson and his church are a wonderful example for others to follow”, said Dean of the School of Theology at Azusa Pacific University, Dr. Bobby Duke.
We encourage churches, pastors, community leaders involved with foster care, and any other members of the community who may feel a tug on their heart about adopting, to attend the Glendora City Council Meeting at 7 p.m. on May 26.
Also, upcoming on ACCU’s foster care awareness calendar is a Foster Care benefit concert, sponsored by ACCU and scheduled to be hosted at Grace Community Church in Glendora on Sunday, June 11, at 6 p.m.
