Greater Texas Credit Union Helped Unleash Hope at the Austin Humane Society
May 15, 2017
Austin, TX – Greater Texas Credit Union raised a total of $600 for Austin Humane Society (AHS) through employee fundraising, and volunteered hands-on; showing some special love to the animal shelter’s current residents on May 11, 2017.
Organized by Heather Gutierrez, Teller Supervisor at the Austin Main Branch, the local credit union staff held a bake sale, sold breakfast tacos to co-workers and got monetary donations from volunteers. As part of the newly launched GREATER GOOD initiative; staff were then able to visit AHS and help wash the dogs, give the cats and kitties some play time, and build some enrichment projects including toys and snacks.
The Greater Texas GREATER GOOD Volunteering Program is one way of formally demonstrating the credit union’s commitment to supporting employee’s passion for service while making a difference in the communities in which it operates. It encourages volunteering activities to give its people the opportunity to actively contribute to their community through supporting registered charities and not-for-profit organizations.
The Austin Humane Society has been serving our community since 1952, and is the longest standing no-kill shelter in Austin. AHS transforms the lives of animals and the people who love them through life-saving programs that find animals homes, serve animals and people in times of crisis, prevent future homelessness though spay and neuter, and engage the community to be a part of the solution. Over the past year, AHS has unleashed hope for over 11,000 animals thanks to the generosity of our donors.
