Fargo, ND - United Savings Credit Union was a proud Silver Level Sponsor for the March 31st Relay For Life event that took place at Fargo North High School.

Each Relay For Life has activities that make events unique from one another, but all of them have the same basic structure.  It was a community coordinated, overnight event that raised money for and supported those who have been affected by cancer.  Teams were assembled, camps were set up at the event location, and food, games, and activities provided entertainment at the family-friendly event to help build comradery both in the fight against cancer, and in the celebration of those who defeated it.

The Opening Ceremony kicked off the event at 6pm.  Everyone who’s been personally affected by cancer, whether recently diagnosed or cancer free for years, was celebrated and cheered on by the crowd.  At 6:30pm, there was a Survivors Lap – their strength and bravery honored with each step they took.  This was followed by a Caregivers Lap – their compassion and selflessness recognized as they walked with the person they’ve supported.  The Luminaria Ceremony started at 8:30pm.  This portion of the Relay For Life event was especially powerful as a time of grieving but also in conjuring hope because each luminaria bag represents a loved one lost to cancer or a loved one who defeated cancer.  The Closing Ceremony took place at 5:30am.  This was a time to remember those we’ve lost, celebrate everything accomplished, and vow to commit to taking action together to help end the pain and suffering of cancer.
