Zeal Credit Union Volunteers at Forgotten Harvest
May 1, 2017
Livonia, MI (May 1, 2017) – In celebration of National Volunteer Week, celebrated this year from April 23 to April 29, a team of volunteers from Zeal Credit Union joined volunteers from other companies to repackage food at Forgotten Harvest.
During their shift, Zeal CU volunteers helped repackage nearly 5,000 pounds of food.
“Our task was to repackage meat sticks,” said Bryan Feldpausch, marketing coordinator for Zeal Credit Union.
“Volunteering is a great way to demonstrate our credit union’s core values of passion, empathy and character,” said Lisa Fawcett, Zeal Credit Union’s vice president of marketing. “This is not the first year we’ve helped out at Forgotten Harvest. In addition to other community activities we participate in, this has become an annual outing for us and is always a rewarding experience.”
The food repackaged at Forgotten Harvest’s Oak Park facility is then distributed to 250 agencies including church pantries and homeless shelters. One pound of food is equal to one meal.
Fawcett and her team encourage others to learn more about volunteer opportunities at Forgotten Harvest, www.forgottenharvest.org, the Detroit area non-profit that rescues surplus, prepared and perishable food that is distributed to emergency food providers to help feed the hungry in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.
