SAN ANTONIO, TX  – Security Service Federal Credit Union enrolled more than 2,100 military members to take the pledge to start saving as part of Military Saves Week held February 27 – March 4, 2017. The annual campaign challenges military men and women to establish positive spending habits, eliminate debt, and start saving for the future.

“Financial success comes from building an adequate savings to help navigate through some of life’s challenges,” said Fred Salyers, assistant vice president of governmental and military affairs, for Security Service. “We are honored to work with military members and their families to help them save successfully by encouraging them to set goals and make a financial plan.”

This year Security Service increased its Military Saves enrollment by more than 40 percent with 800 additional military members participating in the 2017 campaign. “Security Service encourages all service members to save a portion of each paycheck and establish good credit,” added Salyers. “Saving can prepare them for unexpected emergencies, assist with educational expenses and retirement.”

Launched by the U.S. Department of Defense, Military Saves was implemented in 2007 to help increase the national savings rate and decrease consumer debt by encouraging Americans to save and get out of debt so they can start building wealth.
