Rapid City, S.D.  – Donning their best 80s attire, employees from Black Hills Federal Credit Union braved frigid waters during this year’s Rapid City Polar Plunge to show their support for Special Olympics South Dakota.

As part of this year’s plunge, BHFCU employees teamed up with the Rapid City Storm, a local Special Olympics team, to raise more than $19,700 for the annual fundraiser. In total, the event raised more than $97,300 for Special Olympics athletes, programs and events in South Dakota. For more information, please visit http://www.plungesd.org.

“The Polar Plunge is a fun tradition in our community that seems to grow in popularity every year,” said Jackson Bolstad, chair of the BHFCU Special Olympics South Dakota Community Action Team project. “Our employees have a great time dressing up and supporting this organization and, as the event’s motto says, ‘Freezin’ for a Reason’. We can’t wait for next year’s event.”

Employees also participated in the Club for Boys’s Corporate Free Throw Challenge, raising $175 and taking fourth in the financial division. This April, employees are participating in Community Action Team projects to benefit Working Against Violence, Inc., Big Brothers Big Sister, Feeding South Dakota, the American Cancer Society – Northern Hills Relay for Life and the South Dakota Department of Health’s Readiatrics Book Drive.

With support from its members, BHFCU’s employee-led Community Action Team contributes and volunteers with more than 50 local, charitable organizations throughout the year. You can get involved with and stay up-to-date on all of BHFCU’s current CAT projects by following us on Facebook or by visiting www.bhfcu.com to learn more.
