Security Service Charitable Foundation Donates $2,500 to Su Casa De Esperanza

(San Antonio, TX – April 7, 2017) – Healthy eating and exercise have been proven to have a positive impact on childhood obesity and diabetes. Now, thanks to The Security Service Charitable Foundation, Su Casa de Esperanza will be able to teach these habits to mothers and toddlers in the Rio Grande Valley.
The Foundation donated $2,500 to help fund the Early Child Development Program at Su Casa de Esperanza. The program teaches expectant mothers about prenatal care and fetal stimulation, while providing guidance on proper nutrition, home safety and childhood development for infants and toddlers.
"A big concern with the families in our program is the growing rate of obesity, childhood obesity and diabetes,” said Lucy Fernandez, outgoing executive director at Su Casa. “Many of our families have a lack of knowledge about healthy eating and exercise. Our plan is to create specific programming for mothers and toddlers so that they can learn healthy habits here, and then incorporate them at home.”
Su Casa de Esperanza is a non-profit agency that works to address health, community and social issues plaguing families living in the Rio Grande Valley’s colonias. Approximately 350 families living within walking distance of the center participate in the program for young families.
“Teaching a mother healthy eating habits for her child can have a life-long effect,” said Brandy Ralston-Lint, senior vice president of Corporate Communications for Security Service. “We know this program will help make a difference in the lives of these children, their families and the community as a whole.”
Su Casa has been providing resources to impoverished families in the Rio Grande Valley for more than 30 years, and currently serves 10,000 migrant and indigent people living in the colonias in Pharr and Progreso.
