More than 15,000 runners took to the streets around the Washington Monument bright and early Sunday morning for the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run. The race, sponsored by credit unions for the 16th year in a row, resulted in a $580,485 check being presented to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Pat Jury, chair of the CUNA board and president/CEO of the Iowa Credit Union League, held the finish line for first-place finisher Stanley Kebenei and first place women's finisher Hiwot Gebrekidan.

Kebenei, who finished with a time of 46:35, a 4:40 mile pace, ran in college for the University of Arkansas. Gebrekidan, a native of Ethiopia, finished with a time of 53:36 (a 5:22 mile pace).

In addition to the Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run, the Credit Union SacTown Run in Sacramento, Calif. took place Sunday, and a children’s run was held Saturday at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.

Credit unions became the title sponsor of both races in 2002, and more than $8 million has been raised for CMNHs nationwide since then through a collaboration of more than 100 credit unions and business partners.
