Capital Credit Union Awards $7,000 in Scholarships

BISMARCK, N.D. - Capital Credit Union has announced the 2017 recipients of the Howard J. Snortland scholarship. Recipients will each receive $1,000 for the 2017–18 school year to help them reach their educational goals.

Abby Greff, Bismarck, is currently attending Valley City State University, majoring in English education. 

Kelsi Hatzenbuhler, Mandan, is currently attending the University of North Dakota, majoring in psychology.

Abby Kaseman, Bismarck, is currently attending Bismarck State College. She plans to continue her degree at Minot State University, majoring in psychology and minoring in business administration and health management systems.

Bethany Leier, Hazen, is currently a senior at Hazen High School. She plans on attending the University of Jamestown in the fall, majoring in elementary education.

Madison Lounsbury, Center, is currently a senior at Center High School. She plans on attending the University of North Dakota in the fall, majoring in biology and honors with a minor in chemistry.

Logan Olson, Bismarck, is currently a senior at Legacy High School. He plans on attending Bismarck State College in the fall, majoring in pre-med.

Summer Schnellbach, Bismarck, is currently attending the University of North Dakota, majoring in communications.

The scholarships were presented at Capital Credit Union’s annual member event on Friday, March 24.

Capital Credit Union awarded its first scholarship in 1996 and, since that time, has awarded $101,500 to help over 100 young people realize their dream of a college education.

The scholarship is named in honor of Howard J. Snortland, recognizing his 60 years of volunteer service to Capital Credit Union. Snortland was an elementary teacher and served as the Superintendent of Public Instruction for the State of North Dakota. He also had a long history of volunteerism in the credit union movement. He was an example of a visionary; willing to dream about what the future could hold for credit unions, helping to shape the industry.
