BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA –  Pelican State Credit Union partnered with Capital Area Finance Authority (CAFA) to host a free Community Financial Literacy Workshop on home buying for the Baton Rouge community on Monday, March 20 at the Baton Rouge Parish Main Library. Over 70 Baton Rouge residents received free financial education at the workshop.

Pelican’s Nationally Certified Credit Counselor Lynn Gobert hosted a presentation on “Owning the Home Buying Process,” which taught attendees the ins and outs of financing a home as well as tips for house hunting and home ownership. Attendees also learned about the CAFA down-payment assistance grant from CAFA Lending Program Manager Ashley Logan.

In addition to providing free financial education, Pelican also gave out door prizes and provided a free jambalaya dinner for all attendees. Credit union membership was not required to attend the event, receive dinner or be eligible to win prizes.

Pelican offers free one-on-one credit counseling to all of its members. Its five Nationally Certified Credit Counselors are always happy to help members by giving them information they need to budget effectively, make sound financial decisions and, in some cases, improve their credit and consolidate debt.
