Credit union cartwheel contest brings donations to multiple charities
March 20, 2013
After more than 18,000 votes a video has emerged victorious in Verity Credit Unions (Seattle, WA) Cartwheel for a Cause contest. The competition received 56 submissions from hopeful Washingtonians each with their own unique charity they felt deserved $5,000.
Verity Credit Union held a press conference on Wednesday, March 13 to announce the top three winners. The conference was attended by multiple entrants, including representatives for the three winning submissions from: Miranda Gadau, Julie Tilghman and Rachel Prusynski. Miranda Gadau (the first place winner) submitted her video entry for Camp Kesem University of Washington. Camp Kesem is a one-week, student-run overnight summer camp for children ages 6-16 who have or had a parent with cancer. For receiving the most votes, Miranda will receive $5,000 for her cause and $1,000 in cash for her submission. The second and third place winners each receive $1,000 for their cause and $200 cash for their efforts. These honors were awarded to Julie Tilghman (whose video was created for the Holy Names Academy) and Rachel Prusynski (whose video was created for Friends of the Orphans). "The contest went even better than we expected," said Shari Storm, chief marketing officer of Verity Credit Union. "All the video submissions were so unique and heartfelt and helped bring additional attention to some amazing causes." In fact, Verity was so touched by the submissions that it will be making a donation of $100 to each cause that was represented in the contest in addition to the thousands it is donating to the top three vote-getters. "These causes are definitely worth doing cartwheels for," says Storm.
