Westerly Community Credit Union Donates Nearly $10,000 to Local High Schools' Sports Boosters

Westerly Community Credit Union Donates $9,882.54 to Local High Schools’ Sports Boosters!

The Westerly Community Credit Union showed support for local athletes, sports programs and schools as they donated 100% of the proceeds from the 33rd Annual Holiday Basketball Tournament to Chariho, Stonington, South Kingstown and Westerly High School Sports’ Boosters. Each school received a check for $2,470.64 for their basketball teams’ hard work, determination and participation in the tournament.

The 2016 tournament, which was held Dec. 27th, 28th, 29th & 30th raised a total of $9,882.54. The Westerly Community Credit Union is the sole sponsor of the tournament allowing 100% of the gate receipts to be divided between the Sports’ Boosters of the participating schools. This popular event has now raised $214,351.25 since the 1st tournament took place in 1984.

“WCCU has always been a very community-oriented institution,” stated Steve White, WCCU President & CEO. “We couldn’t be happier being the sole sponsor of this event for the past 33 years and raising money to help our communities’ young adults.”

The Westerly Community Credit Union is proud to sponsor this event yearly and wishes to thank all who participated: the boys & girls, JV & Varsity basketball teams, the coaches, and of course the fans.
