(Hemet, Calif.) Feb. 14, 2017 – Altura Credit Union recently assisted with Hemet Unified School District’s annual Spelling Bee, a four-decade tradition. Altura’s Business Development Officer Karena Chum served on the judge’s panel during the event. After 15 rounds, Ethan Corum from Western Center Academy took first place.

To participate in the district Spelling Bee, the fourth to eighth grade students had to achieve first and second place in contests at their elementary and middle schools. Forty-four youngsters advanced to the district spelling contest this year.

As winner of the Hemet Unified Spelling Bee, Corum advances to the Riverside County Spelling Bee set for later in February.

“It was a true pleasure and an honor to serve on the Spelling Bee judging panel again this year,” said Chum. “It is an amazing experience to see all the wonderful and brilliant students the Hemet Unified School District grooms for success year after year.”
