Ten years ago, SEG FCU started a small grant program after recognizing that many teachers choose to pay for supplies for their classrooms out of their own pockets because of budget restraints. Since then, the credit union has given out four $150 grants each year, and those grants have made a difference. "We have helped pay for so many wonderful projects in classrooms over the years, that otherwise may not have taken place," says SEG COO Danielle Koop. This year's recipients will use the money to purchase books on hibernating animals for kindergarten students, headphones to help fifth graders with individual learning assessments, supplies for a middle school photography class, and novels for third graders.
