January 11, 2017
PLEASANTON, CA (January 11, 2017): Building on a rich history of supporting community through giving and service, 1st United Credit Union encourages their employees to volunteer on company time. In fact, beginning in April 2016, they asked their employees to commit to a minimum of four and up to twenty hours per year during work hours. “Our purpose is greater than offering competitive financial products and excellent member service,” explains Greg Pulliam, Chief Administrative Officer. “It extends to volunteerism, supporting local schools, and safeguarding the financial future of children and families in our community.”
At the close of 2016, 65% of their staff volunteered over 600 hours at 1st United-sponsored volunteer events. Staff was seen helping out at local schools, packing and sorting food at the Alameda County Community Food Bank, and teaching financial literacy to Alameda County Family Justice Center Step Up participants, among other things. 1st United’s goal is to see 100% participation in 2017. When asked how they can get their employees out of the office to volunteer, Pulliam says simply, “It’s a priority – we make time for it.”
Additionally, 1st United continued to donate to local charities including almost $20,000 to the Alameda County Community Food Bank, over $20,000 in community sponsorships, and $4,300 in toy donations to Toys for Tots.
“The credit union movement began with a simple idea of People Helping People. We believe volunteering is a core component of that philosophy. Volunteering is an excellent employee benefit and a great team building opportunity for our staff. Plus, it’s fun.”
