Kathy Campbell, President and CEO of Northeast Community Credit Union presents the Helping Teachers Teach grant check to Audra Monroe, Media Specialist at Happy Valley Middle School, to help update the HVMS Library to a 21st Century Library.

Monroe plans to use grant to paint the entire space, rearrange books to create a more user friendly space, discard old/wore furniture, update furniture and technology, purchase E-Books, and create modern reading areas with lighting, color and framed artwork.

“It has been years since any updating has occurred with regard to the physical space,” Monroe said. “Libraries have changed over the past few years. So much of what used to be in books is now online and much easier to access. We want students to use the library and by updating the space we feel students would want to use it more.” With this update the students will be able to come in grab their favorite book and find a comfortable seat and enjoy their reading or research.

Northeast Community Credit Union awards $300 every month to a classroom to be utilized for classroom needs, activities, and academic enrichment.  Helping Teachers Teach is open to teachers within Carter, Johnson, Unicoi, Sullivan and Washington counties that are members of Northeast Community Credit Union.  Teachers may download the application at the credit union’s website:  www.BeMyCU.org.
