Helping students succeed in school is a major component of Texas Trusts people helping people philosophy. Texas Trusts latest school partnership will benefit high school students at risk of dropping out or those unlikely to consider college due to the high cost.
With a donation of $35,000, Texas Trust is helping launch a collegiate high school, through a joint effort between Arlington Independent School District and Tarrant County College. The new school, which opens in the fall of 2014, will consist of approximately 100 freshmen students in the inaugural class. Students will earn a high school diploma and up to 60 college credit hours through the program. The students will have access to Tarrant County College facilities, resources and services, including the faculty, libraries, labs, artistic and cultural activities, and extracurricular activities, as appropriate. There is no cost to the student to attend the school. The tuition and cost for books and other fees will be covered by the school district.
As a community partner in this endeavor, Texas Trust will provide financial education resources and workshops throughout each school year for students, parents, and faculty. Texas Trust will also provide graduating seniors from the class of 2018, who complete an associates degree and meet other criteria, a $1,000 scholarship.
\By partnering with AISD's early college high school, we will be able to equip students with the knowledge and skills to make sound financial decisions throughout their lives,\" said Jim Minge
