Helena Community CU helps fund shelter at food bank
August 1, 2013
Helena Community Credit Union in Montana brought dignity to those waiting to receive groceries from Helena Food Share by helping to fund a recently constructed covered area.
The Sharing Shelter provides a space out of the elements for participants to wait and a ribbon cutting event was held earlier today.
Ann Waickman, executive director, said the organization depends on the generosity of the community. Helena Food Share helps more than 8,000 people annually and less than 1 percent of the 90,000 pounds of food provided comes through federal sources.
Waickman said the shelter effort came together through generous business donors with the hard work and effort of the Mercer family, longtime volunteers.
