captureFalcon Heights, MN  - Dan Stoltz, President and CEO of SPIRE Credit Union, was awarded the William H. Spurgeon III Award, the highest recognition for individuals and organizations contributing remarkable leadership to their communities.  The award was developed in 1971 in honor of Spurgeon, widely regarded as the foremost leader in the development of the Exploring program. Stoltz was nominated by a member of the Northern Star Council: Boy Scouts of America, and is one of just six people recognized at a special awards ceremony held October 13, 2016.  Dan’s accomplishments that contributed to receiving the award include: an unwavering dedication to, “the 3 C’s: Cooperatives, Community and Credit Unions;” exemplary leadership that brought SPIRE through a recession, making the credit union even stronger; and incredible time commitments to community through his service as the 79th King Boreas of the 2015 St. Paul Winter Carnival and 2016-2017 Minneapolis Aquatennial Commodore. Having a genuine devotion to giving back, he talks frequently that life is about giving--not getting.  In fact, Stoltz’s King Boreas crest and now his Commodore medal both contain the letters, “TTT.”  These stand for Time, Talent and Treasures.  He believes strongly that everyone should give back in all three areas to enrich their communities and the lives of others. “I am absolutely honored and humbled to receive such a prestigious award for Community Service from the Boy Scouts of America,” says Stoltz, “I truly appreciate how the Scout Organization is about being a go-getter and go-giver---a mantra that I strongly uphold.  In everything I do, I am ever-grateful for being given the opportunity to serve my community.” About SPIRE Credit Union: SPIRE Credit Union has been proudly serving Minnesota and Wisconsin residents since 1934, and is a full-service financial institution committed to providing smart products, great rates and excellent service for both personal and business members. SPIRE has 16 branches across the metro and throughout northern Minnesota.
