February 15, 2013
On the Eve of American Education week, the Seaford School District recognized Sussex County Federal Credit Union of Seaford, DE as a recipient of their annual Friends of Education award. For more than 28 years, the award has recognized a person and/or organization that made a positive contribution to the schools within Seaford School District and in particular, the lives of students.
Sussex County FCU was acknowledged by Seaford School District Board President Dr. Michael Smith as being "an instrumental partner in Delaware New Tech Academys economic and personal finance program". Throughout the past year not only has the credit union supported teachers and students with financial workbooks, interactive on-site presentations as well as made contributions to the needs of less fortunate students thru the SCFCU Foundation, but they have created an in-depth partnership with the DE New Tech Academy. Deb Jewell, SCFCUs Business Development Manager has worked closely with DE New Techs economic teacher Jason Jeandell, to collaborate ideas and develop financial education assignments that apply project-based learning to help develop personal and professional life skill sets. Mrs. Jewell stated "Our success with the students is influenced by Mr. Jeandells passion to provide his students with life-long learning opportunities. We have been very fortunate to work with him and are honored to have the opportunity to provide students with financial education experiences, designed to last them a lifetime. Our partnership with DE New Tech Academy and the Seaford School District reflects the credit unions co-operative spirit to give back to the members and families of those we serve. The award was truly an honor."
