nhfcu-dayofcaring1Sturgis, SD - A team of volunteers from Northern Hills FCU recently joined 137 people that made up 10 teams to work on projects in Sturgis, SD. The Northern Hills Federal Credit Union team worked at Jim and Donna Jacobsen's house, doing yardwork and other projects. The couple needed help due to a severe burn accident that left Jim in the hospital since July 3. Renee Parker of the United Way said volunteers from Northern Hills Federal Credit Union worked an entire afternoon at the Jacobsen home, cleaning gutters, mowing the grass, washing windows, and even did some staining and painting. "Donna is a former board member and volunteer of United Way, and she cried when the team showed up to help her," Parker said. Pat Kurtenbach, President of the Sturgis Economic Development Corporation, says "United Way is a community effort and is only successful when lots of people come together for a common cause." Northern Hills FCU was proud to be part of this community effort, making a difference one life at a time!
