2016-kickoffValdosta, Georgia (September 8, 2016) Southeastern Credit Union has officially kicked off their month-long Fill-a-Truck for Hunger Food Drive benefitting local food bank, Second Harvest of South Georgia. September is nationally-recognized as Hunger Action Month, and designed to inspire people to take action and raise awareness of the issue of food insecurity. In South Georgia, one in four people struggle with hunger and may not know where theyll find their next meal. That number includes one in three children who may not have enough to eat. "Southeastern is proud to help lead the charge in alleviating hunger in South Georgia. We strongly believe it is our duty to better our community and live out the credit union philosophy of people helping people," said Mike Gudely, Southeastern CEO. Southeastern Credit Unions Fill-a-Truck for Hunger campaign has become the signature event for Hunger Action Month in South Georgia. The organization is challenging the community to raise 20,000 pounds (or the equivalent) in food and funds. If that goal is met, SCU will donate an additional truckload worth of food. Donations can be made at all six Southeastern branch locations, OSteen Subaru of Valdosta, both City of Valdosta and Lowndes County offices, and online at feedingsga.org. Other Hunger Action Month events include:
  • September 3-5: Wild Adventures BOGO Admission Days (with canned food donation)
  • September 8: Fill-a-Truck for Hunger Kickoff/Hunger Action Day
  • September 10: Open Pottery Workshops for Empty Bowls at Turner Center for the Arts
