Black Hills Federal Credit Union Holding School Supply Drive
August 24, 2016
With only a few weeks left until the start of the school year, Black Hills Federal Credit Union received a major boost to their 20th Annual School Supply Drive this week.
A long-time support of the drive, Black Hills Energy donated $2,500 to the project during a check presentation at the credit union"s School Supply Drive space in Rapid City on Monday.
Heidi Bulman, business development officer at BHFCU, said the donation will help purchase supplies for students in over 60 area schools in 14 communities across Western South Dakota.
"When you make a donation to the School Supply Drive, you"re helping to ensure that nearly 7,000 students head back to school with the necessary supplies for a successful school year," Bulman said. "We couldn"t do this without the tremendous support of area businesses, like Black Hills Energy, as well as credit union members and the community."
With the rising cost of school supplies, the drive is helping to lessen the financial burden many families in the area face during the back-to-school season, Bulman said. The Drive collects and distributes everything from pencils, pens, and backpacks, to compasses and crayons.
Last year, Black Hills Federal Credit Union was able to distribute over 85,000 supplies to area students, Bulman said. Community members and area businesses can donate to this year"s drive at any BHFCU, Black Hills Corporation or Black Hills Energy location through August 26.
