Southern Mass Credit Union in Fairhaven, Mass., is marking its 13th year of supporting the Fairhaven Improvement Association's "Music in the Center" concert series. Concerts began in late July and will be held throughout August on Thursday evenings, on the steps of Fairhaven Town Hall.
This year's theme is "Concerts Under the Stars." The line-up of local bands includes: Buzzard Blue Band, The Infractions, Shipyard Wreck....Unplugged, Absolute, and Eddie and the Exciters.
For the past several years, Southern Mass Credit Union has been the major sponsor of the five-concert series, which epitomizes small-town America at its best. Concert-goers sit on lawn chairs and blankets on the grounds of Fairhaven's Millicent Library directly across from town hall, where kids play on the grounds of the two buildings. On roped-off Center Street, children play hop-scotch and use colored chalk to make beautiful pictures, while adults dance to the music. Credit-union personnel and directors attend each concert, giving away pinwheels, stickers and dog treats.
