CaptureBRAINERD/BAXTER, MN (August, 2016) Hundreds, if not thousands, of children around the area will have an opportunity to receive a new or gently used book thanks to the generosity of members of the Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union. In connection with its 60th Anniversary Celebration, the Credit Union coordinated a "60 Days of Giving" fundraiser. Between May 1 and June 30, MMFCU collected books, visited classrooms and raised funds by selling "bookworms." Collection points were set up at each MMFCU branch location, and members responded by donating over one thousand new and gently used books. All of these books will be distributed to local charities, schools, daycares and libraries around the Credit Union"s service area. In addition to collecting books, MMFCU also accepted monetary donations and, in turn, matched them dollar for dollar. Over $2,350 was collected and donated to help support the United Way Imagination Library program, as well as the Great River Regional Library in Staples. The final piece of the campaign came by way of sending MMFCU staff out into the community to volunteer in schools, daycares and libraries. Through this endeavor, MMFCU employees reached nearly 700 children throughout its service area. "This campaign really exemplified the core of our mission and vision," said MMFCU President Chuck Albrecht. "Sixty years ago, we were created by and for everyday people to be in a position to reach out and assist where other institutions couldn"t or wouldn"t. The "60 Days of Giving" campaign allowed us to support the communities and people who have supported our Credit Union for the past six decades. And that is truly a great feeling." Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union is a member-owned financial cooperative serving central Minnesota. The credit union has full-service offices in Alexandria, Baxter, Brainerd, Crosby, Detroit Lakes, Little Falls, Pequot Lakes, Staples, and Twin Valley; as well as a drive-through in Baxter.
