Valley FCU Helps Veterans with Personal Finance Concepts
August 1, 2016
Valley FCU's CEO Darla Card and CFO Ed Gillig recently had the opportunity to help a small group of veterans, who are preparing to enroll in college, get a better handle on some important concepts in personal finance. The two presented a class to members of the Veteran's Upward Bound program at MSU-Billings on July 19. Darla's presentation centered on credit scores and how being "debt responsible" can improve your score and your life (at least when it comes to the cost of credit). Ed then talked with the group about the importance of savings and financial responsibility, giving examples of how your savings can grow as long as you stick with it, even if the amount you can put aside on a regular basis is small. Both Ed and Darla said the veterans who came were "very inquisitive" -- they had a lot of questions. And who could better demystify credit and help a group of veterans become more financially savvy than the CEO and CFO of a local credit union!? Both Ed and Darla said they hope to be invited back so Valley FCU can continue the partnership with MSU-Billings' Veteran's Upward Bound program.
