CaptureSAN ANTONIO, TX (July 28, 2016) Air Force Federal Credit Union (Air Force FCU) presented the San Antonio Food Bank (SA Food Bank) a check for $5,000.00 on Friday, July 22, 2016 in support of the Food Bank"s Million Summer Meals for Kids food drive. The money was raised through a special "Jeans Day" program at the credit union. Employees could opt in and make a small donation each pay period to wear jeans. With near 100 percent participation, staff raised $5,000.00 through the last year specifically for this program. San Antonio has a great need in the summer to feed more than 300,000 low-income children. Those children lose access to breakfast and lunch meals they normally receive at school. The SA Food Bank helps fill that need and through operational efficiencies, can stretch $1 into 7 meals. "Receiving the gift of 35,000 meals from Air Force Federal Credit Union during the Million Summer Meals campaign is critical as we reach the halfway point," said Eric S. Cooper, President/CEO of the SA Food Bank. "Air Force FCU has always been a great supporter of our efforts to fight hunger not only through food and monetary donations, but with their gifts of time and talent. We are so grateful for this partnership." This is the fourth year that the credit union has sponsored the Million Summer Meals for Kids food drive through media partner KENS5, the CBS affiliate in San Antonio. In the first year, a million meals were achieved, and last year there were over 5 Million meals raised. This year the goal is 6 million meals. "Air Force FCU has been part of this community since 1952," said Bob Glenn, President/CEO of Air Force FCU. "It"s important that we, as a credit union, continue to give back to those in need. I am so very proud of the effort and support we received from the employees that participated in the program. They held true to our core value of "Service before Self" and in turn, have hopefully made a difference in many lives." The credit union is also accepting non-perishable food and monetary donations at all their branches. The Million Summer Meals campaign runs through August 19, 2016.
