PORTLAND, MAINE - On Monday Maine Credit Union League held its" 12th annual Share the Bread event. The event is part of their campaign for ending hunger , which has raised $6.5 million since 1990. The group made a contribution of more than $ 20,000 to hunger organizations across Maine. The group say its" important to give in the summer months when students are out of school. "We wanted to do something different and so we have a loaf of bread and then the real kind of bread. It's really going back to what Maine credit unions are really about and that's sharing and helping Maine people. We've entitled this particular ceremony Share the Bread. We selected, along with Good Shepard Food Bank, two food pantries from each Maine county to receive a loaf of bread and then the other kind of bread, that they can really put to good use to help hungry Mainers," says Jon Paradise, AVP, Governmental & Public Affairs, Maine Credit Union League. In Maine, one in four children doesn't get enough food.
