Verity Credit Union Engages Community with Pokemon GO Craze
July 20, 2016
SEATTLE, Wash. They"re taking over your social media feed, and crawling through the streets as you go to get your morning coffee but is there an opportunity for credit unions to take advantage of the Pokmon GO craze?
Verity Credit Union, of Seattle, WA thinks so.
They have encouraged two of their branches to pilot a campaign to draw Pokmon trainers into their locations by setting lures. When Pokmon appear, especially rare ones, Verity is posting on Facebook and Twitter to help trainers catch them before they"re gone. Staff at those locations are equipped with credit union swag to hand out to individuals who catch Pokmon in or around the branch, and to talk with them about the game.
"We were fortunate enough to have Poke Stops near our two new branches," said Melina Young, Director of Marketing and Brand at Verity Credit Union, "And so we figured it was worth testing. Pokmon GO is what people are talking about right now, and a lot of our staff members are playing, so we decided to use the game to have a different type of conversation in our communities."
If Pokmon GO doesn"t turn into a passing fad, Verity intends to up the ante and encourage all of its branches to engage with trainers playing the game. And if it is just a fad, they still believe it was worth participating in. "Being different is what sets us apart from the competition," said Young, "We focus on community at Verity, and right now Pokmon GO is important to the communities where we have branches."
