July 1, 2016
Navigant Credit Union in Smithfield, R.I., recently awarded a total of $15,000 in scholarship awards to support 12 local high school seniors on their way to continuing their academic careers.
Since launching its scholarship program 16 years ago, the credit union has awarded more than $275,000 in college scholarships.
New this year, one of the 12 scholarships was named in honor of Maurice Rhault, who was appointed to the credit union's credit committee in 1956 and retired this year after 60 years of service.
Through the application process, all scholarship recipients, also Navigant members, demonstrated a commitment to their academic potential and a passion for community service. The awards were presented at a celebratory luncheon held at Navigant Credit Union's corporate office in Smithfield.
"These awards are one of many ways we give back to our members, and invest in Rhode Island's future," said Navigant Credit Union President and CEO Gary E. Furtado. "We are inspired by these young students' achievements and proud to support their continued success in their academic and professional careers. We look forward to seeing what they'll accomplish in the years to come."
