Educational Employees Credit Union Awards $100,000 in Grants

CaptureFresno, CA June 29, 2016 Educational Employees Credit Union based in Fresno, CA, has reached a milestone with its Student Grant Program. EECU recently awarded more than $100,000 in grants to members for college expenses, surpassing $1 million since the program"s inception in 2003. Beth Dooley, EECU"s president and CEO, is proud that the grant program has assisted students in working toward and reaching their career goals. "The more than $1 million we have awarded has helped educate the next generation of teachers, doctors, accountants and nurses, and so many others in their respective fields." This year 50 members, chosen from 350 applicants, each received $2,000 grants for the 2016-2017 school year. They were recognized by Derek F. Scharton, EECU"s board chairman, and Dooley at the credit union"s recent Annual Meeting, which was attended by more than 2,400 members and guests. Grant recipients were selected based on their personal statements, letters of recommendation and school transcripts. The grant program awards grants to members attending college or vocational or technical school, or pursuing professional training. EECU has more than $2.6 billion in assets, has 16 branches and serves more than 254,000 members in 10 Central California counties. EECU is the 68th largest credit union in the U.S., the 14th largest in California, and the largest based in the central San Joaquin Valley.
