SAN ANTONIO, TX (June 24, 2016) Security Service Federal Credit Union is pleased to announce a $2,500 donation to the Martinez Street Women"s Center. The donation will support the organization"s Girl Zone Summer Camp. The camp is focused on enhancing the academic potential and nurturing the self-esteem of girls ages 9-14 who come from low-income families.
"Our program is working to change lives," said Andrea Figueroa, executive director for the Martinez Street Women"s Center. "Our data shows that girls who participate in our Girl Zone program have better grades, higher school attendance and fewer behavioral referrals during the school year. Community support from organizations such as Security Service are imperative to keep the program going, and we are so appreciative of their donation."
The Security Service donation will support the organization"s free 7-week Girl Zone summer camp, offered for up to 100 girls who would otherwise not have an opportunity for summer enrichment. In addition to academic and personal awareness programming, the camp ensures the girls many from food insecure homes- receive a healthy breakfast, lunch and snacks each day.
"The Martinez Street Women"s Center"s summer camp is working to level the playing field for young girls in our community, helping them see that they can not only have big dreams, but achieve them," said Brandy Ralston-Lint, senior vice president of corporate communications for Security Service Federal Credit Union. "The Girl Zone camp, while fun, also offers them essential academic and healthy lifestyle programming, and we are honored to be a part of this effort."
The Martinez Street Women"s Center, founded 16 years ago, serves 3,500 girls, women and families living on the city"s East and South East sides each year. Their mission is to provide their clients access to vital health services, quality education and advocacy.
