CaptureBitterroot Community FCU is involved in a really cool, forward thinking community project: the Darby Brilliant Beginnings Course Savings Initiative (DBB). The initiative's aim is to help local kids get financial education and save for college, and as part of its efforts, 18 Darby Public School kindergartners recently got a gift that's likely to keep giving -- a savings account seeded with $100. The credit union's president and CEO Kathy Transue sits on the DBB Board. She says the DBB has worked hard to rally community support, sponsors, and private donors and plans to continue the initiative. This is fantastic! Research indicates that kids from families with low to moderate incomes who have $1,499 in a savings account when they finish high school are three times more likely to attend college and four times more likely to graduate from college.... so what a wonderful way to give local kids a good start to their financial lives.
