CaptureNORTH HAVEN, Conn. (May 30, 2016) Three students from Connecticut will head to college this fall with heavier pockets thanks to Connex Credit Union. Recently, Connex awarded a total of $5,000 to these students as part of their annual scholarship program. Through its ConnexCares philanthropic initiative, Connex offers these scholarships each year to help cover the cost of tuition, books and living expenses. To qualify, students have to adhere to a high set of educational standards, and are also required to submit an essay covering a financial topic. The credit union received a large number of applications and the selection process proved challenging. After careful deliberation, Connex Credit Union is proud to announce the recipients of this years scholarships. The recipient of this years Arthur B. Haesche Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 is Brian DeMaio, a resident of Wallingford currently attending James Madison University in Virginia. This scholarship was established and named in honor of one of the founding members of Connex Credit Union, and is awarded annually to a student majoring in business or finance. The recipient of this years Nicolas G. Hackett Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 is Jacob Zavatone-Veth, a resident of Hamden currently attending Yale University in New Haven. This scholarship was established in memory of Nick Hackett, a longtime volunteer at Connex Credit Union. The recipient of the John R. Edwards Community Involvement Scholarship is Alina Dess, a senior at Daniel Hand High School in Madison. This scholarship in the amount of $2,000, was established in honor of Connexs former President and CEO who served for more than 35 years. This scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates a commitment to community service. "Congratulations to each of these students on all of their accomplishments," said Frank Mancini, president, Connex Credit Union. "The dedication and work ethic that is clearly evident in these young adults has set them on the path to a future filled with great success as they embark on their college careers and beyond."
