fccu relay for life fundraiserJamestown, ND - On Wednesday, June 1st, Jamestown employees competed in the first annual First Community Credit Union "Striking Out Cancer" softball game. The event was held at McElroy Park and was followed by a grill-out. The purpose of the FCCU "Striking Out Cancer" softball game was to fundraise for Relay for Life, as well as to warrant some friendly competition while enjoying Americas favorite game. Players included: Jerry Janz, Darin Finck, Jeremy Forester, Haylee Inczauskis, Bobbi Eberhardt, Sean Rinkenberger, Lori Dally, Tanya Nenow, Kelly Heyer, Jacie Volk and husband, Jared Volk, Janna Bergstedt, Christina Kuntz, Cali Johnston, Amanda Hofmann, Jason Gruebele, Mike Davis, John Rawerts, Brooke Schmeichel, and Northlands Clayton Lilleby. President, Steve Schmitz was the umpire. As Cali Johnston shared, "At one time when I was catching, I looked out in the field and looked at my co-workers, especially members of senior staff and even our CEO behind the plate, all having a good time, and I thought to myself This is a great place to work!." Johnston continued to share her appreciation, "I hope others thought the same thing. I know its not always all about fun and games, we do actually need to get work done, but it sure does help to have fun and games once in a while." Although the weather might not have been ideal, that certainly didnt put a damper on team People Helping People! With six innings knocked out of the park, the final score was 8-7. It wasnt your typical softball game; every other inning had a different challenge for the batter, including running the bases backwards (3rd, 2nd, 1st, home), batting the opposite hand, and using a wiffle ball bat vs regular. It was certainly entertaining to watch and participate. Thank you to everyone who came out and showed their support, as well as those who participated in the game and the grill-out. More than $500 was raised for Relay for Life.
