Voyage FCU Supports Habitat for Humanity
May 31, 2016
Sioux Falls, SD-The Voyage Federal Credit Union "Dream Team", along with employees from Volunteers of America-Dakotas and friends kicked off the 4th season of building homes together for Habitat for Humanity.
This kickoff build was twice as exciting because it was the first experience in the new annex at the Habitat Sioux Falls/ReStore. The sheer size of the indoor space would take anyones breath away but on top of that, the building removes any concern for weather, rain, sunscreen, bug bites, dirt or mud. Meaning that the builds can take place year round no matter what!
Both days, the crew arrived to first enjoy some delicious pizza donated by Orion Foods and as they ate, Scott, the foreman from Habitat discussed the task for the day. This week the job was siding and so, everyone was suited up with their own hammer, apron, nails and most importantly, safety goggles! "Hitting a nail is much harder than one anticipates," Molly Brown the marketing coordinator from Voyage FCU explained. Brown continued, "But accidently flinging a nail across a room or onto the floor is easy as pie!"
The group saw the process of siding from the ground up, first kneeling on the floor, to then standing and crawling up a ladder. By Saturday, everyone was walking stories above ground on scaffolding. All in all, it was another successful Habitat build, a fantastic week of heights and humor and home building.
