ALBANY, NY (May 26, 2016) The New York Credit Union Associations Statewide Scholarship Program will provide $25,000 in financial assistance to 49 college-bound high school students. The students represent 22 New York credit unions from various regions throughout New York. Nearly 1,700 students from more than 90 credit unions applied for the scholarships, which ranged from $250-$1,500. The program was open to New York credit union members who are high school seniors planning to enroll in a two- or four-year college. Award recipients were selected based on academic performance, honors and awards, extracurricular activities, community activities, leadership roles and an essay. "For many individuals, the decision to pursue a higher education will include the biggest financial undertaking of their lives," said NYCUA President and CEO William J. Mellin. "The New York credit union movement is proud to do our part to help these deserving young people as they prepare for college."
