Georgia United CU Announces School Crashers Makeover Winner

CaptureDORAVILLE, GA (May 24, 2016) - Georgia United Credit Union is excited to announce the winner of its 3rd Annual School Crashers Makeover program, Oakcliff Elementary School of Doraville!� Oakcliff was chosen from among hundreds of nominations from schools across the state of Georgia. Nominated by current 3rd grade student, Chloe Riggins, Georgia Uniteds School Crashers judges agreed that her nomination essay reflected her love for her school and articulated many opportunities for community involvement and facility improvements. School Crashers is a unique program from Georgia United, which offers local schools the opportunity to apply for a facility "makeover".� The goal of the program is to bring communities together to support local schools and their school systems. Any public, private or parochial school in Georgia was eligible to submit a 250 word statement explaining why their school should receive a makeover.� The winning school was announced today with Debbie Smith, CEO of Georgia United, DeKalb County School District Superintendent Dr. Stephen Green, Oakcliff Principal Dr. Delores Paschall and numerous parents and faculty at the end of 3rd grade honors assembly. Oakcliff Elementary School, built in 1965 and converting to a theme school in 1996, is located at 3151 Willow Oak Way in Doraville and has 740 students and 80 faculty/staff.� They will receive their School Crashers makeover project Friday, July 22 and Saturday, July 23, in order for the project to be completed before the new school year in August. There will be opportunities for community members, educators, parents and students to join Georgia United team members to volunteer for this School Crash event. Five additional runner-up schools were also announced today to receive School Crashers mini-makeovers.� These schools will work with Georgia United this summer to complete their requested improvement projects:
  • Hambrick Elementary, Stone Mountain 702 students/75 faculty/staff playground improvement grant
  • Norcross Elementary, Norcross 1161 students, 130 faculty/staff playground improvement grant
  • Dutchtown Elementary, Hampton 735 students, 80 faculty/staff grant for special education program
  • Tunnel Hill Elementary, Tunnel Hill 350 students, 50 faculty/staff media center grant
  • Browns Mill Elementary, Lithonia 650 students; 80 faculty/staff� - grant for multiple improvement areas
