Southeastern Credit Union Awards $6,500 in Scholarships

Valdosta, Georgia (May 25, 2015) Southeastern Credit Union completed its sixth high school student advisory board on May 16.� Each high school senior who fulfilled their board term will receive a $500 scholarship to the college of their choosing, totaling $6,500 in college scholarships given by Southeastern for the 2015-2016 school year. The thirteen high school seniors on this year's board represented eight schools from across Southeastern's ten county field of membership.� During their term, students met once a month to hear from personal finance experts and discuss financial decisions that will impact their future. The students received a special visit from Congressman Austin Scott at their March meeting.� The board also toured the Southeastern Credit Union Financial Trading Center at Valdosta State University earlier in the school year with a presentation from Bush Wealth Management on the basics of investing. Since Southeastern's high school student advisory board began in 2010, nearly $40,000 in scholarships has been awarded to local high school seniors.� Scholarships are applied to tuition, books, and fees at the college of the student's choosing. Students are selected for the board based on several criteria, including an overall grade point average of at least 3.0 and formal application with essay questions. �Board members for the upcoming 2016-2017 student advisory board have already been selected. Southeastern Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial institution serving South Georgia since 1953.� The Credit Union is owned by its 29,000+ members and governed by a member-elected board of directors.� Southeastern has branch offices located in Valdosta, Tifton, Moody AFB and Nashville.
