Member One FCU Awards $6,500 in Scholarships

CaptureROANOKE, VA (May 23, 2016) Member One Federal Credit Union presented two college-bound high school seniors with a total of $6,500 in college scholarships. The two scholarships are awarded to area high school seniors who are attending a Virginia college or university this upcoming fall. The Richard L. "Dick" Williams Memorial Scholarship was named for Member Ones first President/CEO who served for over 35 years. In addition to his outstanding work for Member One in our community, he had a passion for sports, especially at the high school level. Member One honors Dicks dedication to education, competitive sports and philanthropy with this scholarship. Through the support of the Williams Family, the award will assist this student athlete to further their education at a four-year Virginia University. The 2016 recipient of the Richard L. "Dick" Williams Memorial scholarship of $5,000 is Kate OConnor. Kate will be graduating from William Byrd High School in Vinton and plans to attend the University of Virginia School of Nursing in the fall. The Henry Lee Memorial scholarship was established in 2008, formally known as the Member One Generation One Scholarship. This scholarship was renamed for a past recipient of the Generation One scholarship, Henry Lee. Henry Lee was one of the 32 students and faculty tragically killed at Virginia Tech on April 16, 2007. The 2016 Henry Lee Memorial Scholarship of $1,500 was awarded to Mollie Woods. Mollie will be graduating from William Byrd High School in Vinton and plans to attend Virginia Tech in the fall, having been accepted to the College of Neuroscience.
